Book of Lamentations

Written in Palestine just after the destruction of Jerusalem, about 606 B.C. The book is made up of 5 poems of lamentation expressing the deep suffering of Jeremiah because Israel and Jerusalem were destroyed.  The book expresses in poetry the ever increasing sufferings of the people of Jerusalem during the siege, their horrors of bitterness, and captivity to a pagan people incensed at the stubbornness of resistance.
