Book of Nahum

Written in Palestine about 786-757 B.C. The book reveals the destruction of Nineveh about 100 years after Jonah. The prophecy is a complement and counterpart of the book of Jonah; the city was literally destroyed as predicted by both prophets—by the Medes and Babylonians under Nabopalassar, father of Nebuchadnezzar. The book makes clear that, although God had spared the city of Nineveh because of repentance in Jonah's day, her destruction was now coming because of the inhabitants going back into sin and rebellion against God.
