When the Bible speaks of Hell and the fire of Hell as written in Luke16, is this just a figure of speech or is Hell a literal place? | |
ANSWER: |
|
Yes. Hell is a literal place and is described in Luke 16:23-32, "And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame... And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot: neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence..." These Scriptures reveal the lost will experience 10 different sources
of torments:
1. Remorse and despair in seeing the
righteous and godly whom they have despised now clothed in glory,
immortality, eternal life, and all the bliss of God. The wicked will be brought out of Hell to be reunited with their resurrected, immortal bodies, tried for the deeds done in the flesh and cast alive into the tormenting Lake of Fire. Death and hell will be cast into the eternal Lake of Fire that has been prepared by God for the Devil and his angels as well as all unsaved mankind (Matthew 25:41, 46; II Peter 2:4; Revelation 14:9-11; 20:6-15; 21:8). The Bible teaches that Hell is a place of: sorrow (Genesis 42:38; II Samuel 22:6; Isaiah 14:9,15), fire (Deuteronomy 32:22; Luke 16:19-31), full consciousness (Isaiah 14:9-15; Ezekiel 32:27-31; Luke 16:19-31), torment (Luke 16:23-25, 28), regret (Luke 16:23-25), and non consuming fire (Mark 9:43-48; Luke 16:22-31). Men and women today ignore God's Word in their selfish pursuits of fame, fortune, and sensual pleasure. But all to often they are stricken by death without notice and ultimately enter this place called Hell. The Bible teaches us that we are not at liberty to live our lives as we so choose, but we are to conform our lifestyles to that of God's Word. "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in the body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Corinthians 6:20). Thus, as stated earlier in another answer, we as a slave are the
sole
property of our master. Having been purchased by the precious
blood of Yeshua we are no longer our
own but, His. Like it or not, that is the judgment of God's
Word and will last throughout eternity. |
