Book of Jonah |
||
Written in Palestine about 853-824 B.C. The book is a story of a bigoted Jew who, after being chastened by the Lord for disobedience, preached to and converted the whole city of Nineveh. The book shows why the destruction of Nineveh and the Assyrian empire was delayed by God for almost a century; to illustrate the fact that God's mercy and salvation are for both Jews and Gentiles who will repent and turn to Him; and to typify and illustrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. | ||
